Super Pulsed Laser Power for Equine Wound Healing

At the stables of Matthew Wright Eventing, 8 year old liveries horse Jack had a freak accident where he cut himself above the coronary band whilst cross country schooling. It left a flap of skin that needed to be cut off by the Vet.  Jack had a 5 day course of antibiotics, but the wound wasn't healing. Luckily and coincidentally, Venn Healthcare’s offer of sponsorship for Multi Radiance SUPER PULSED Class 1 Laser had recently been accepted and the pocket-sized, fully portable device was on hand to put to the test.

Following a course of largely ineffective antibiotic treatment, the highly inflamed wound was treated with the Multi Radiance Cold Laser device, twice a day for three weeks and these were the remarkable results:-

Matthew Wright himself carried out the treatment over a 21-day period with a break on day 12 for 48 hours in order to avoid the production of “proud flesh” being generated. The first of the 4 wavelengths to be applied was the Blue Light at 465nm which is especially effective in treating inflammatory skin conditions, MRSA and other bacteria and viruses. The treatment lasted just 3-4 minutes, morning and night. Soon the redness disappeared with infection kept at bay.

For the balance of the treatment period, a combination of Pulsed Narrowband red (660nm), Pulsed Broadband Infrared (875nm) and the remarkable Super Pulsed (905nm) wavelengths were applied for the same treatment time time twice each day. During all treatments, the staff at the stables had no need to wear goggles, nor did the horse have to have eye protection, thanks to the very high safety standards uniquely offered when using Multi Radiance Class 1 laser.

Matthew was astonished by the rapid healing of such a nasty injury and is now a devotee of the technology. Being so portable and safe to be used at all public-attended events, the Multi Radiance laser will be a considerable asset for keeping Matthew Wright Eventing horses “sound” and at the top of competitions across the UK and Europe.

About Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) for Veterinary Medicine

Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is an increasing therapeutic technique in Veterinary Medicine. As in Human Medicine, the low power red/near-infrared laser light could be used to reduce inflammatory conditions, induce analgesia and promote damaged tissues repair, both in conventional animals like horses, dogs and cats and in more unconventional ones, including reptiles, birds and exotic mammals.

Multi Radiance Medical's Veterinary Laser Therapy devices provide accelerated pain relief and healing. This safe and powerful technology is applied with a cordless hand-held applicator providing targeted Super Pulsed Laser light that stimulates cell regeneration. Cold Laser Therapy is used to relieve acute/chronic pain and injuries in humans; now we can offer safe and effective laser therapy for Veterinary care.

Multi Radiance Laser Therapy can be particularly helpful in reducing pain and enabling arthritic animals to become more active again. It also ideal in managing wounds and dermatological abnormalities including hot spots, lick granulomas, otitis externa, pyoderma and healing post surgery. If there is infection present, blue light therapy can be used to reduce the bacterial load and minimize the need for anti-microbial therapy. Healing can also been accelerated with Multi Radiance Laser Therapy by decreasing pain, inflammation and promoting blood flow to the affected areas.
